Keep in mind that this step will take at least 60 minutes. Next, you will want to peel your potatoes. After peeling them, place them in a large pot and fill the pot with about an inch of water. Add only about a teaspoon of salt to the pot and start to boil the potatoes. Keep one cup of the cooking water and place off to the side, and finally, you will be able to drain the potatoes. The next step is to mash. Mash the potatoes thoroughly and be sure to mash up any large chunks. The final step is to remove the garlic cloves and mash them with a fork or masher. Fold the garlic into the potatoes along with olive oil, a cup of the cooking water, and stir until the creamy mashed potatoes are to your liking!

2. Greenbean Casserole

Instead of just having regular green beans at your thanksgiving dinner, you can look forward to having a green bean casserole! There are only a few ingredients that you’ll need for this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Two cans of drained green beans
  • One can of condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • One can of french fried onions
  • One cup of shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and place your green beans and your soup in a large bowl that can go in the microwave. Mix it all together and heat it in the microwave for about three-five minutes. Stir 1/2 cup of cheese and heat that for about two-three minutes. Transfer the green bean mixture to your casserole dish and sprinkle the french fried onions and the rest of the cheese. The final step is to bake in the oven until the cheese has melted and the onions have turned a golden brown color.

3. Grilled Citrus and Spice Turkey

Change it up this Thanksgiving and grill your turkey instead of just cooking it. This recipe will also give your turkey a slightly different flavor. You will only need a few ingredients to make this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 12 to 14 pound turkey
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup of spice rub
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 cup of wood chips (ex. apple or cherry wood)

The first step for making this turkey is to put it on a large rimmed baking sheet or in a pan. Grate 11/2 teaspoons of lemon zest in a bowl. Add the spice rub and oil and stir it all together. Rub the spice mixture under and over the skin of the turkey. Cover it very tightly with plastic wrap and let it chill for at least 24 hours. Next, you will want to let the turkey sit at room temperature for about an hour. Make sure to pat it dry on the inside and on the outside using paper towels. Brush the butter on the skin of the turkey. Cut any fruit and place it into the cavity of the turkey. Tie the legs together and tuck the wings underneath. Then, you will want to prepare the charcoal grill to about medium heat and set up for indirect cooking. Soak the wood chips in water and cover for thirty minutes and drain. Afterward, you will place a small aluminum foil drip pan on the indirect heat side of the grill under where the turkey has to sit. Arrange the coals on the opposite side of this and cover about a third of the grill. Add water to the foil pan to come halfway up the sides.

The final steps:

Drain the wood chips and add to the coals. Place grill grate on the grill, brush it clean and set the turkey breast side up over the drip pan. Cover the grill and partially close the air vents. Grill, rotate the turkey every so often so that it will end up cooking evenly. The internal thermometer should read about 160 degrees for about 3 to 4 hours. Cover the turkey with aluminum foil if it begins to get too dark. The last and final step will be to transfer the turkey to a large cutting board or platter and let it rest there for at least twenty minutes before carving it to enjoy!

4. Pumpkin Cream Pie

A great dessert to have on the Thanksgiving dinner table is a pumpkin cream pie. Purchase all the ingredients needed for this amazing recipe and enjoy making it to have on your Thanksgiving dessert table!

  • Four ounces of cream cheese
  • 1 can of pumpkin puree
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 frozen pie crust shell placed in a glass pie pan

First, you will want to preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Next, in a medium bowl is when you will want to combine the cream cheese, pumpkin puree, cream, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Using the electric hand mixer, add the eggs, one at a time incorporating between adding each one. Then, you will want to pour the filling into the pie shell and bake on a sheet tray until the filling is mostly set and the crust has browned which should take up to 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool it to room temperature.

Brown Sugar Whipped Cream Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice

Start by using a chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream with a hand mixer until it starts to thicken. Add the brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice and continue to beat until soft peaks start to form. Spread the whipped cream over the pie and serve it immediately or keep in the fridge for up to two hours.

5. Tatortot Casserole

Another great and tasty casserole dish to make is tater tot casserole.

Ingredients:

  • Tatortots
  • Sour Cream
  • 1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • Ground beef
  • Shredded Cheese

First, you will preheat your oven to 375 degrees. While your oven is preheating, you will start to brown your ground beef on a skillet on medium heat. Mix until all of your meat is browned. After that has finished, you will put it off to the side to cool and get out a medium mixing bowl. Pour the cream of mushroom soup into the bowl and add at least 2 tablespoons of sour cream to the bowl and mix it thoroughly together. Take out a casserole pan and add the first layer which will be ground beef to the pan, the next layer will be the sour cream and cream of mushroom soup mixture, and pour it all over the ground beef. Once that is spread evenly in the pan, you will want to sprinkle your shredded cheese all over as your next layer. Finally, you will add your tater tots to the top layer of the pan and place in the oven to cook for about twenty-five to thirty minutes.

6. Homemade Mac and Cheese

Many times at Thanksgiving, there can be a picky eater that just wants a plate full of macaroni. Make sure that this dish is available for them on the dinner table!

Ingredients:

  • 8 Ounces of uncooked macaroni

Cheese Sauce Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1/4 cup of sour cream
  • 2 cups of shredded cheese

Your first step is to cook the elbow macaroni and cook it until it boils. Once the noodles are done cooking, drain them and set the cooked noodles off to the side. The next step is to make the cheese sauce. Mix together the flour, sea salt, and garlic powder together in a small bowl. Then in a saucepan over medium heat, you will want to melt the butter. After this step is when you will want to add the flour mixture and whisk to combine. Cook for one minute until the mixture is only slightly brown. Then add 1 cup of milk and whisk it together until the mixture is smooth. Add the sour cream and mix together until smooth. Cook on medium-high heat until the mixture is thickened, don’t let it boil. Once the mixture has reached its thickness, reduce heat to low, and add the cheese. Whisk until cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth. Taste and add more salt or seasoning if you prefer. Add the cooked pasta noodles to the pot of cheese sauce and stir until it’s all combined evenly. Let the mac and cheese cool for about three to five minutes or until it looks as though the cheese sauce has thickened and sticks to the noodles.
