Central Florida is known for one of its quaint and historic towns. This town is most well known as Sanford Florida. You will want to visit so many of the unique shops and divine restaurants. Although Sanford might be a little smaller compared to some of Central Florida’s other cities, it has a wide range of great places anyone would want to come and enjoy! You will want to check out everything that the Historic District has to offer and all the great places to explore in this city.
Sanford Florida has one of the most beautiful historic districts in town. Their historic district is also popular amongst the locals as Downtown Sanford. Take a leisurely stroll along side Lake Monroe. You can ride your bike, walk your dog, or get a daily jog at Downtown Sanford’s lakefront. Not only does this historic district offer daily activities by the lake, but this area also offers Fort Melon Park right across from the lakefront. You’ll want to bring your children to this park every weekend because of the great amount of playground equipment it has to offer. Fort Melon Park is also a great place to throw your child’s birthday party not only because of the exciting playground equipment for them to play on, but because of the nicely sized pavilions that anyone in the community can rent. This particular park isn’t just for children, but people of all ages will enjoy going to this park because of the basketball courts and tennis courts that it has to offer. Summer months in Central Florida can get unbearably hot. You’ll want to find every way imaginable to be able to cool off during those hot months. Fort Melon Park is a great place to do just that with the splash pad that this park offers. Your kids will love being able to cool down from the hot sun while running in their swimsuits through the splash pad.
Downtown Sanford not only has great outdoor activities, but this historic district is also well known for all of its cute and vintage style shopping stores. Take a walk down First Street in this historic district and you will want to check out every store and restaurant along this street. If you love comic books and superheroes, then you will want to stop in at SMASH! Comics and games. If you’re not too into comic books, but enjoy reading, you will enjoy exploring the shelves at Maya Books & Music. You will find a variety of books in this bookstore. From fiction to non-fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. Children can also enjoy finding books in the kids’ corner of the store. Books aren’t the only type of entertainment this store offers to their customers. Head up a few steps in the store to where many vintage records can be sold.
Maybe you’d rather just check out a book from the local library. Luckily, the Seminole County Library is located right in Downtown Sanford. If you’re looking for timeless antiques, you’ll be able to find some at affordable prices in the Antiques & Dustibles. Take a break from book shopping or antiquing to enjoy lunch at any of the restaurants in the Historic District. You will be able to choose from a variety of different places. For instance, Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Café which is a German inspired restaurant. If you’d rather have barbeque, than you could head over to Fuel BBQ. You will definitely want to try either lunch or dinner at The Original Christo’s or the Colonial Room Restaurant. Another appetizing restaurant in downtown that you will want to go to time and time again is the Breezeway Restaurant and bar. You won’t just keep coming back because of the food, but anyone that goes to the breezeway will also love the atmosphere of this dining experience. You can also enjoy tasty pizza at the Riverwalk Pizzeria. Enjoy your favorite type of pizza either to go or sit down and enjoy the atmosphere of the glistening lakefront view.
Events and Attractions:
The Historic District is also well known for their events and activities that take place throughout the year that are enjoyable for the whole family. Downtown Sanford has a farmers market every Saturday morning where vendors come and set up booths with homemade items that they sell to their customers for affordable prices. Every month, Downtown Sanford always has the Alive after five event. This event is for anyone in the community that wants to attend and is always the second Thursday of each month. This event has great food options, local artists, and entertaining music for everyone to enjoy. Christmas is also a popular time of the year for Downtown Sanford because of the annual Christmas parade. Schools, stores, business, and more from around town make parade floats to ride down the street and show off their holiday spirit. The Christmas parade isn’t the only parade that Downtown Sanford puts on every year. This area also has a parade on Martin Luther King Jr Day every year as well for anyone that wants to come out and celebrate. Parades aren’t the only events that this town offers to the community, they also offer a wide range of activities from family movie nights to the annual Fourth of July event.
If you’re looking for a fun attraction in the Sanford area to take the whole family, you can enjoy a day of fun at the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. You will be able to see so many different animals like snakes, giraffes, monkeys, black bears, and many more. This zoo also gives the guests the opportunity to zip line through the trees before or after you take a walk through the zoo. This zoo has a refreshing splash pad in the park so that the children can cool off after enjoying time visiting all the beautiful creatures throughout this zoo.
Enjoy a day looking and learning about Sanford at the Sanford Museum. You will learn interesting facts about the historic people from the Sanford area and you will have the opportunity to see interesting artifacts that this museum to show.
If you’re looking for somewhere to see plays on occasion, then you will have to see a play at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center also known as the Ritz Theater. This venue puts on plenty of different plays throughout the year. Speaking of great theaters, if you want to make sure that you have a nearby movie theater to see all the new movies coming out, then look no further because Sanford has the Seminole Towne Center movie theater. This theater offers all the new and popular movies that you can’t wait to go see.
Check out the unique bars around town like the West End Trading Co, the Sanford Brewing Co, Little Fish Huge Pond, Celery City Craft, The Imperial at Washburn Imports, the Wet Spot, Buster’s Bistro, Sanford Ave Tavern, Bitters & Brass, and the Wop’s Hops Brewing Company and Kitchen.
There are also quite a few new fun and exciting places coming to Downtown Sanford. For instance, Dixie Dharma, The Sullivan Public House, Loggerhead Distillery, The Old Jailhouse, Theater West End, Henry’s Depot, The Nutty Peanut, The Twisted Greek, and The Basin.
Transportation in the Area:
Sanford has a variety of different types of transportation. Take a free ride around town in the Sanford Trolley. Living in the Sanford area, you will also be able to enjoy riding around town in your golf cart at the many different golf cart zones around town. If you travel a lot out of town for either business or pleasure, Sanford is a great place to do just that with the Orlando Sanford International Airport being so close by. Sanford also has a Sunrail Station nearby so that you can travel to work or other parts of Central Florida.
The Sanford area has many options of places to eat. You can pick from places like Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin for a juicy burger and milkshake, Cracker Barrel for a sweet southern style meal, Chick-fil-a for their delicious chicken and french fries, Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steakhouse, Mellow Mushroom, Logan’s Roadhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Texas Roadhouse, Steak and Shake, the Ale House, Route 46, the Camp House Bar and Grill, and Patio Grill. You will love the variety of places to go shopping in the Sanford area. Go out for a fun day of shopping and places in town like Target, Big Lots, Ross for affordable clothes and household items, Marshalls, Old Navy, Ulta for haircare and makeup products, Carter’s for baby clothes, Stein Mart, Kirkland’s for a wide range of home décor, Party City where you can get any and all types of party supplies, World Market where you can get home items as well as various items from around the world. You can get anything for the pet in your life at the local Petco. Head over to the Sanford Plato’s Closet where you can donate your gently used clothes and buy trendy and gently used clothes at an affordable price. The Seminole Towne Center mall has a lot of great stores that you will want to check out all of them. These stores include Bath and Body Works, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Burlington, Dillard’s, Hot Topic, H&M, American eagle outfitters, Cotton On, Aeropostale, JC Penney’s, and Macy’s. You can find other places around town to shop like the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Walmart, and Sally’s Beauty Supply, Bed Bath and Beyond, Michael’s and Kohl’s. Sanford also has quite a few different auto stores and hardware stores for anything that you might need. Check out Ace Hardware, Lowe’s, AutoZone, Advanced Auto parts, Discount Tire, and Pepboys. Buy beautiful flowers for the ones you love or to display in your gorgeous home at the Seminole Flower Shop in town. Get groceries and other goods from either Save-A-Lot, Aldi’s or Winn-Dixie.

Schools in Sanford:
Sanford is in the Seminole County school zone and you will be able to enroll your children in some of the best schools in the area. You will be able to choose from Hamilton Elementary, Pine Crest Elementary, Midway Elementary, Goldsboro Elementary, Wicklow Elementary, Idyllwilde Elementary, and Bentley Elementary. Sanford also offers a couple middle schools like Millennium Middle School or Sanford Middle School. Your teenager will have close access to the high school in the Sanford area known as Seminole High School. If someone in your family wants to go to a college in the Sanford area, you won’t be disappointed with the Seminole State College campus. You’ll love college experience at this beautiful and newly remodeled campus.

Sanford is a great place to raise a family and enjoy all the great activities with friends in the community. You will be able to get together with friends and family members at some great and delicious places to eat, shop around town during the weekends, enjoy the fresh air downtown at the park and walk around the zoo appreciating all the exotic animals. See a show at the local theater or get some people together to go out and enjoy a movie at the local movie theater. Traveling is made easy with easy access to the sunrail station and the airport. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to spend time at the different places and exciting events that this city has to offer you and your family!
