Maitland, one of the oldest incorporated municipalities in Central Florida, is a city rich in history. The area was once called Fumecheliga (Musk Mellon Place) by the Seminole Indians before it was established as Fort Maitland in 1838 by the U.S. Army.
Maitland is a suburb of Orlando. The town’s “historical corridor” encompasses old residences still standing and occupied in the Lake Lily-Lake Catherine area and extending through the central portion of the city. Examples of these century-old structures include “The Church of the Good Shepherd” (1883); “William H. Waterhouse House” (1884), and the “Maitland Art Center” (1937). The area has always been a vacation spot because of its climate, location to theme parks and people. However, Maitland has recently become a location where affluent individuals have come to reside. Maitland has many picturesque parks along lakes, which attract many boaters.

Cranes Roost Park, Cranes Roost Lake, and the general area on State Road 436 east of Interstate 4 is known as the central area of the city. An outdoor town center was recently opened named ‘Uptown Altamonte’ which marks the central business district of the city. Cranes Roost at Uptown Altamonte features a water fountain choreographed to classical, swing and contemporary music.
This city center incorporates large-scale apartment buildings and planned high rise condominiums. The construction also includes mixed-use shops and retailers. The park area includes a square for weddings, festivals, and city holidays. The spot has become popular with Altamonte Springs residents and attracts residents from nearby Longwood, Casselberry, and Maitland. Future plans include two high rise residential structures (in excess of 10 stories) and a series of parking structures to facilitate visitors.
With a constant vision toward the future, Casselberry has evolved from a sparsely populated agricultural town to a bustling, dynamic City which has maintained an enviable growth rate in both residential and commercial areas. Offering a rich quality of life supported by excellent City services, tranquil residential surroundings, and a continually expanding business market, Casselberry is an exciting and thriving community in which to live, work and play.
